7.7-mile Oswegatchie Run, Waterford, CT
This pleasant Waterford, CT run provides many scenic views of the Niantic River. A sidewalk is available along higher traffic roads, including Boston Post Road, Niantic River Road, and part of Spithead Road, ensuring your safety along the course.
You start this jog at Oswegatchie School. Taking a left out of the school, you begin with a slight uphill on Boston Post Road. When the sidewalk ends, turn left onto Oswegatchie Road.
You will continue straight on the road as it becomes Konomac Avenue, and bear left onto Shawandassee. At this point, you will be greeted with very picturesque views of the water.
At the intersection, take a right onto Oswegatchie Road. This winds around and meets with Niantic River Road. Taking a right, follow the sidewalk along Niantic River Road. Here you will see an abundance of boats and waterfowl to your right.
At Daniels Avenue, take a left and begin a sharp ascent up the road past Southwest School where the hill peaks. After your descent down Daniels, you will take a left and begin a gradual, mile-long climb up Spithead Road. Spithead meets Boston Post Road, where you will end the run on a slight downhill back to Oswegatchie School.
Parking: Free parking is available at Oswegatchie School on Boston Post Road. Alternatively, you can park at Southwest School on Daniels Ave. Starting here changes the course so that you climb steadily at the beginning of your run on Spithead Road, and then you end the run with a steep ascent back up to the school.
From I-95 S:
Take I-95 S to Exit 81. Take a left at the traffic light. Continue past Walmart to the next set of traffic lights. Take a left onto Cross Road. Follow Cross Road to the intersection of Boston Post Road. Take a right onto Boston Post Road. Continue 3/4 of a mile. Oswegatchie School will be on the left.
From I-95 N:
Take I-95 N to Exit 75 (Rte. 1 / Flanders / Waterford). At the stop sign, bear right. Continue approximately 1.5 miles. Oswegatchie School will be on the right.
