10-mile Great Neck Run, Waterford, CT
Beginning at Great Neck Elementary School, jog down Goshen Road, taking advantage of the sidewalk. Continue straight as Goshen turns into Shore Road.
Following the road as it bends to the right, you will be greeted with scenic views of Jordon Cove. You may encounter various wildlife like birds, deer and rabbits.Take a left on Jordan Cove Road, crossing the bridge over the tranquil water.
After about a half mile, bear right under the train tracks onto Gardiner Wood Road. Framed by solemn oak trees, Gardiner Wood Road has a slight upward incline and takes you past baseball and soccer fields.
Gardiner ends at Rope Ferry Road, where you will take a right up the hill along the sidewalk until you reach Gallup Lane on the left. Continue climbing up the long steady hill on Gallup Lane through a quiet residential area.
When you reach the end, take a right onto Mullen Hill Road and continue down to North Road. North Road intersects with Rope Ferry Road around the five mile mark. A left onto Rope Ferry will be followed with a quick right onto the long sidewalk of Great Neck Road.
Continue on Great Neck to Braman Road on the left. Braman begins with a nice downhill and takes you over rolling hills through quiet wooded areas before ending with a slight uphill. At the end of Braman, you will bear slightly to the right (but not an immediate right) climbing the hill on Niles Hill Road.
At the top of the hill, take a right onto Lloyd Road. Jog down Lloyd until it intersects with Great Neck Road. Take a right on Great Neck, passing by Waterford Beach Park and Harkness Park. You may come across various waterfowl as you cross Goshen Cove.
Great Neck Road meets with Dimmock Road. Bear left, continuing along Great Neck Road. Finish the route as it takes you slightly uphill back to the school.
Free parking is available at Great Neck Elementary School after school hours.
Directions from Hartford:
Take Route 2 to Route 11 (New London). Turn left at the end of Route 11 onto Route 82, and proceed to the traffic light. Turn right onto Route 85 - Hartford Road. Proceed 15-20 miles to the I-395 overpass. At the next traffic light, turn right onto Cross Road. At the end of Cross Road, turn left onto Route 1 - Boston Post Road. Continue on Route 1 (past cemetery on right). At the next traffic light, make a right onto Avery Lane. Follow to traffic light (intersection of Route 1). Go straight through onto Great Neck Road. Proceed approximately 2 1/4 miles, and Great Neck School will be on the right.
Directions from New Haven:
Take 1-95 North to Exit 75 for Waterford (Route 1 - Boston Post Road). Continue on Route 1 (past cemetery on right), and at the next traffic light, make a right onto Avery Lane. Follow to traffic light (intersection of Route 1). Go straight through onto Great Neck Road. Proceed approximately 2 1/4 miles, and Great Neck School will be on the right.
Directions from Providence:
Take l-95 South to the Cross Road exit. Turn left at end of ramp, and at light turn left onto Cross Road. At the end of Cross Road, turn left onto Route 1 - Boston Post Road. Continue on Route 1 (past cemetery on right), and at the next traffic light, make a right onto Avery Lane. Follow to traffic light (intersection of Route 1). Go straight through onto Great Neck Road. Proceed approximately 2 1/4 miles, and Great Neck School will be on the right.
Directions from Norwich:
Take I-395 South to Exit 77 (Waterford - Route 85). Turn left at end of ramp, onto Route 85 -Hartford Road. At the next traffic light, turn right onto Cross Road. At the end of Cross Road, turn left onto Route 1 - Boston Post Road. Continue on Route 1 (past cemetery on right), and at the next traffic light, make a right onto Avery Lane. Follow to traffic light (intersection of Route 1). Go straight through onto Great Neck Road. Proceed approximately 2 1/4 miles, and Great Neck School will be on the right.
